David Young was born in North Carolina and raised in Virginia. He completed his Specialist in Education (Ed.S.) degree in School Counseling from the University of Georgia, and has a Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Georgia State University.
David worked for several years in the music industry prior to beginning his studies in education, and has a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston’s Berklee College of Music. He has: opened for performers such as Chubby Checker; performed on TV with blues artists such as Chick Willis and Beverly “Guitar” Watkins; played on the same festival stage with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, the Infamous Stringdusters, Stephane Wrembel, and Anders Osborne; recorded for the Lucky Southern, LCM, and Stanford Record labels; and has been a session drummer for radio and TV commercials and jingles. David has also performed live with artists such as Jeff Sipe (Phil Lesh and Friends, Aquarium Rescue Unit), Clair Marlo, Roger “Tiny Basser” Kohrs (Unknown Hinson), and the Atlanta Percussion Trio. He currently performs and writes songs in the Atlanta area with two groups, the Amazing Mongooses, and the Fried Combo. The Amazing Mongooses' second album, "Blue Sky Blues," is currently available at Amazon, iTunes, and other music downloading sites. The second album by the Fried Combo is scheduled for release by Christmas 2014. David plays Vic Firth 5AN sticks, Gretsch Drums, and Avedis Zildjian cymbals.
David is the author of four published journal articles, and four school counseling books: Skits, Raps, and Poems for the School Counselor; More Skits and Raps for the School Counselor; Sing Along Guidance (co-written with Richard Schwintek), and Skits are a Hoot for Little Toots, to be published by the end of 2014.
David’s awards have included State of Georgia Writer of the Year, and Region II Elementary Counselor of the Year. He is currently a professional school counselor at Mountain Park Elementary, in Lilburn, Georgia. David has presented programs for counselors all over the state of Georgia, as well as San Antonio, Texas, and Orlando, Florida. He lives in Decatur, Georgia, with his wife, Betty. The couple has two adult sons.
